Dear Song of Solomon subscribers:

We are excited to give you a progress update on our editions of Song of Solomon! We realize that this update is long overdue, and before anything else, would like to apologize for this delay. We would also like to extend an immense thank you for your patience and understanding as we get back to a more stable rhythm in our workshops. In addition to some happy developments in the press room and bindery, we look forward to more consistent updates as we have also welcomed new team members in the office.

Song of Solomon production update

Our paper wrapper, half-cloth, and deluxe half-leather “Ferocity of Beauty” editions have all shipped several months ago. We have some paper wrapper and a very limited number of half-cloth editions remaining in stock.

Paper wrapper (left) and half-cloth (right) editions are still available!

All editions of Song of Solomon have been printed, and those that have not yet shipped are currently in the bindery. The leather arrived months late, and unfortunately most of the leather that did arrive had severe problems with spotting that only emerged after it was dampened during the binding process. The supplier, who like the rest of the world was hit by supply-chain issues during COVID, has replaced some (but not yet all) of the leather, and we are binding as we are able with the leather we have on hand. We are indeed catching up, but are not there yet. Our half-leather editions are currently in a few different stages of binding: the copies pictured below are waiting for leather.

A number of half-leather editions have already been bound, and are currently being pressed in the bindery while the individually-fitted boxes are being completed.

This past week, we have been working on a wave of beautiful marbled endpapers for some select full-leather editions.

Every copy of the “ARCHIVE”, “MILKMAN”, and “MACON DEAD” editions of Song of Solomon will have marbled endpapers. Each sheet is handmade and truly one-of-a-kind.

We are hard at work making sure that each copy of Song of Solomon is of the highest quality that we can achieve. If you wish to check for updates on your edition between Kickstarter updates, a great resource is the new “Status” page recently added to our website, in which we log at what stage of production each edition is. You can view the Status page here: https://thornwillow.com/status or by finding it in the dropdown menu under “Publications” followed by “Collector Resources”.

We are looking forward to remaining in touch with more regular updates soon. We deeply appreciate your ongoing patience and support as we complete the remaining copies of Song of Solomon!

With many thanks and highest regards from the press,

The team at Thornwillow
